The Rib Shack – Highlands, North Carolina

ribshack North CarolinaJanuary 18th, a lunch at The Rib Shack in Highlands, North Carolina with snow covering the ground everywhere. The Ribshack is located just off of Main Street and came highly recommended by a friend and fellow BBQ coinsurer, Steven Nicks. He recommended the ribs but on this quest for the perfect bbq, I am on a pork plate mission. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted by our server Kristy, who was very nice and did a great job.

For Lunch, I decided on the pork plate with 2 of my favorite sides…black eyed peas and bbq beans. In my opinion, I was not blown away by the pork. It was premixed in the sauce and was not very flavorful. In my many years of eating pork I have found an appreciation of pork that speaks for itself without being premixed with the sauce. With that being said, it was not a bad lunch. Just not my favorite way to present such a succulent meat. I was however impressed with the sides. The BBQ beans were great…they seemed to be cooked in a sweet darker bar-b-que sauce, with a hint of brown sugarhighlands North Carolina BBQ which added to it’s great flavor. The black eyed peas were also very tasty and hit the spot. One thing that was extra good and enjoyed at lunch was chipotle-ranch sauce which accompanied the french fries. Oh and the sweet tea was pretty darn good too! They did have a great bar area, and if I was ever in town again I would give them a second chance and have a beer and some of those ribs I have heard about.

Lunch for 2 was 20.22 without tip, appetizer or desert.
