Dick Russell’s BBQ – Alabama – Bradley Ezell

Dick Russell’s BBQ
5360 Hwy 90W
Tillman’s Corner, AL (I-10, exits 15 or 17)
If you’ve ever driven on I-10 between Mobile and Biloxi, you’ve probably seen the signs for Dick Russell’s BBQ in Tillman’s Corner, Alabama. This is one of those old-fashioned restaurants where you can order anything on the menu and not go wrong. The atmosphere is unique as it kind of reminds me of a 1970’s ranch-style steakhouse. Their breakfast is legendary and their steaks are very tasty. I’m just as likely to order their massive bacon cheeseburger and onion rings as I am their pork.
The two BBQ dishes I have tried are the baby-back ribs and the BBQ sampler appetizer. The baby backs are fall-off-the-bone tender. The slab comes as a whole and you could separate the ribs using a plastic fork…very tender and smoky. The ribs come with some sauce already on them and a gravy boat full of sauce on the side. The sauce is your basic thick, sweet and smoky sauce that you’re probably used to and will like. The BBQ sampler comes with a few baby-back ribs, a couple of pieces of chicken, sliced pork and sliced brisket. All of the above are very tender and covered in the aforementioned sauce. Again, nothing fancy, yet very familiar and comforting.
If your travels take you thought here and you’re in the mood for simple, tasty food, try this place. When I eat there, I typically get the burger, because it’s one of the better burgers around and because the BBQ is good but not extraordinary.
