Lancaster’s Bar-B-Que – North Carolina

On a cold December day, I headed up to Lancaster’s Bar-b-que in Mooresville, North Carolina (just North of Charlotte and near Lake Norman). I was meeting a buddy that grew up not far away and went to Davidson College, and he recommended that we go to Lancaster’s. I was in town working on my Charlotte condos web site and visiting friends and local bbq restaurants.

My review of Lancaster’s unfortunately is not the most glowing. I hate to be negative, but Lancaster’s seemed to me the type of BBQ restaurant that started as a hole in the wall and grew into an amusement park. I completely understand that they are in the heart of NASCAR country, but they should worry more about the food they bring to the table and less about covering every square inch of the walls with stuff or how many video games they can jam in the restaurant for addition income. Now this review is not all bad…the portion of meat was pretty good and the service was good, but the side portions were extremely small and the mini side corn on the cob (nothing like Hillbilly Willys Bbq) was cold and had probably been sitting in water for hours. Going to Lancaster’s was an experience and I enjoyed catching up with my buddy, but I don’t think it is somewhere I will make an effort to get back to any time soon.

If you live in the area, Lancaster’s probably does the trick. But if you want to go see some real BBQ restaurants, visit the joints going out of their way to provide the most succulent meat and large sides such as:
Fox Bothers
Southern Soul

A little bit of information about Lancaster’s Bar-B-Que

  • Over 10,000 square feet of racing memorabilia on three levels
  • 11 TVs
  • serving “Redneck Fries”
  • Satellite locations in Duckworth’s Food Market at 558 River Highway, Mooresville, NC, and in Huntersville, NC

I am looking for more Charlotte BBQ Restaurants go to next time I am up in this neck of the woods. If you have one you recommend, please comment below. I would love to get some locals’ thoughts.

Not exactly in Charlotte but close enough:
    -Homeplace (Lincolnton NC)

-Bar-B-Que King (Lincolnton NC)….there is also another BBQ King in Charlotte however it is not in any affiliated with the one in Lincolnton, just the same name. I’ve heard good stuff about it too.

    -Bridges BBQ (Shelby NC)

    -R.O.’s BBQ (Gastonia NC)

-Sims BBQ (Granite Falls NC)….this place is an experience. BBQ buffet, square dancing, live bluegrass band all for around $11
