Melear’s in Fayetteville, Georgia – Kim Gokce

Good BBQ not too far? There’s lots of choices in Atlanta’s environs, but if you want the best pulled pork sandwich, you have to drive to Melear’s in Fayetteville.

I went down there a few weeks ago to pick-up a cargo platform for my Jeep at a dealer on state route 85. On the way back to Atlanta during lunch hour, I stopped at a Chick-fil-A.  A mile or two down the road, I saw the Melear’s sign out of the corner of my eye and nearly got whiplash turning around!

There was a Melear’s bbq in Joneboro when I was growing up in the 60’s/70’s, and it was the highlight of my bbq dreams back then – I had to stop.

Turns out this place in Fayetteville is run by the brother of the same Melear in Jonesboro (long gone now). Well, I wasn’t hungry but I went in anyway 🙂 … that was a good, gluttonous decision.     I did love Melear’s and can’t wait to get back there. After finally getting down to Fox Bros BBQ on DeKalb Ave, though, I have to take back my claim that there’s no good pulled pork ITP – my new favorite is just 15 mins away by the tracks! Thanks, Ian, for the great place to raise my Q IQ!
